Background
A native of Montreal, Robert's career has been divided between social, environmental and business pursuits. He was fortunate enough to have traveled extensively throughout Central America. Upon his return from India, he joined the 1992-93 S.A.V.E. Tour (Student Action for a Viable Earth) traveling in Canada, mediating group discussions on social responsibilities and the environment.
While studying Business Administration in 1998, he worked as a French language instructor for Berlitz. Robert has also worked for the Department of National Defense, Greenpeace, Ottawa Civic Hospital, Microcell and RBC Financial Services.
In 2003, Robert founded Raincity Studios, a new media design firm focused on developing content managed community websites and web-based educational applications. Over the past year, Raincity has grown to become a leader in Drupal theme design and community development and currently employ 6 full-time staffers with over $115,000 in sales for its Q3-2005 fiscal quarter.
Raincity Studios’ client list includes BCIT, Hoggan and Associates, Richards and Chan, Now Communication and Scarlett Magazine.
Robert also contributes articles to the online journals, thestandardblog.com and his own blog robertscales.org.
Education
Robert recently completed a Senior Management Certificate in New Media and Web Development from BCIT, where he was the Chair of The School of Business.
Currently he is Co-Producing a master blogging workshop series with the Banff New Media Institute and co-developing a set of blogging courses for BCIT where he is also an advisor to the New Media and Digital Arts faculty.
